FIRST IN THE CHRONICLE • Zander Frost reports: Stewart’s Shops has signed an agreement to purchase the assets of Jolley Associates convenience store chain and S.B. Collins including its heating oil business Clarence Brown of St. Albans, Vermont.

Stewart’s confirmed the purchase plan in a written response to a Chronicle inquiry.

‘Taco King’ will open second restaurant in Hudson Falls

FIRST IN THE CHRONICLE: Zander Frost reports: “Taco King” Juan Ramirez is expanding to Hudson Falls.

He plans to open El Gallo Mexican Restaurant at 345 Main Street, next door to the Dollar General. It was most recently occupied by the Lazy Duck Cafe, another Mexican restaurant.

Mr. Ramirez said his opening date is “maybe” the next few months.

El Gallo means “the rooster” in Spanish.

Patten redesigns Glen Street facade of apartment project to echo a building he plans to raze

Mayor Collins rebuffed

Glens Falls Mayor Bill Collins suffered a rare Common Council defeat Tuesday when his plan to buy the TD Bank property across from City Park for $1.2-million fell short by an abstention.

Ward Two Councilman Bob Landry, Ward Three Councilwoman Diana Palmer and Ward Four Councilman Ben Lapham voted no.

But the decisive action was Ward One Councilman Ed Donahue’s decision to abstain.

Looking to help turtle with hook stuck in mouth

On Sept. 17, North Country Wild Care posted on Facebook asking people to keep an eye out for a turtle with a fishing hook through its mouth at Crandall Park in Glens Falls.
