Mayor Collins ends his run

“Though I am officially a candidate for mayor and my name remains on the November ballot, I have decided against seeking re-election,” Mayor Bill Collins said Monday, as first reported by News Channel 13’s Mark Mulholland.

Major turnout for Glens Falls ‘No Kings’

A massive turnout filled City Park, Glen Street and Bay Street in Glens Falls Saturday for the “No Kings” anti-Donald Trump rally in conjunction with events across the country.

I’d estimate as many as 1,000 people turned out, though it’s difficult to count.

Washington County aims to cut 20% tax jump

Washington County is facing about a 20% tax levy increase, Finance Chair Brian Campbell of Hartford tells The Chronicle.

That is more than the 10 to 15% he warned of in The Chronicle last month, before budget workshops began — but he says it is far less than the 40 or 45% increase that loomed after the initial round of budget meetings.

Warren County budget squeezed, too

Warren County Administrator John Taflan tells The Chronicle, “The county budget team is reviewing potential cuts to try to avoid going over the tax cap,” which for 2026 is 2.63% over a budget of approximately $210 million.
