SUNY Adk president pledge: End the deficits

SUNY Adirondack has experienced a plunge in enrollment, and its operating deficit ballooned by more than a million dollars in the past year.

Anastasia L. Urtz, J.D., the college’s new president, and Keith Kaplan, its vice-president administrative services/treasurer, delivered the sobering news to Warren County’s Higher Education Committee.

But Dr. Urtz pledged to fix the problems, underlining her determination with personal details.

At 81, she earned SUNY Adk. degree

Deanne Rehm insists there’s nothing extraordinary about her graduating from SUNY Adirondack last weekend — at age 81. Her degree is an Associates in Science, Individual Studies.

Ms. Rehm is the retired longtime Town Assessor for Queensbury, Lake George and Bolton. She was also Town Supervisor of Bolton for six years; three terms from 1997 to 2001.

SUNY Adk. adjusts to big enrollment drop

Facing its lowest enrollment numbers since the 1980s, SUNY Adirondack is cutting positions, cutting costs, holding the line on tuition and doubling down on its efforts to serve the community, says its president Kristine Duffy.

“Enrollment was on a decline even before the pandemic,” Dr. Duffy said, “driven by declines in the birth rate in the region, full employment and then of course Covid.”…
